One of your favorite performers is coming to town, and you don’t know if you are going to be able to afford a ticket to the show.  If you don’t have enough money to justify spending on the concert tickets, you might think that you will have to forgo the show and listen to the band’s latest CD in a dark room while you lament your financial position in life.

It doesn’t have to be so bleak though!  There are things you can do to get those concert tickets cheaper, or even free, as long as you are willing to put in a little work.

1: Join the band’s Street Team

First, you can consider joining a street team for the band.  Many bands, particularly up and coming bands, have what they call street teams in various cities.  These teams of fans spread the word about the show online and offline, and when you participate with these organized teams you can earn discounted or free tickets to the show.  It’s similar to being in a fan club, but you are doing active promotion for the band.

2. Offer to Drive Your Friends to the Show

Second, talk with your friends who are also fans of the band, particularly if they love to drink beer or wine.  While you don’t want to take charity from your friends, if all of them are going and you don’t have the money, tell them you’ll drive them to the venue in exchange for a ticket.  This works best if the venue is a long way away.  This means they can all drink to their heart’s content without worrying about having to drive home.  

We’re not just talking hard-drinking heavy metal fans here – even a couple of glasses of wine or champagne at a classical music concert can result in a DUI.  This exact thing recently happened to my friend’s 60-year-old schoolteacher mother!!

3. Keep an Ear to the Ground to Score Unwanted Tickets

Third, if you know some people who are thinking about going to the show and they have unexpected plans pop up at the last minute, let them know that you will take the ticket off their hands.  In some cases, you can get the concert tickets cheaper, or even free.  As with the second tip, you are going to want to make sure that you somehow compensate your friends for the tickets that they offer you.

4. Enter Radio Station Competitions

Fourth, you can always try to win tickets from the radio station.  Most stations in cities large and small will have giveaways for concert tickets when bands are coming to town.  Listen to the station and visit their website so you can learn how you might be able to win those tickets.  Because luck plays a large factor in winning, you will want to hedge your bet and try some other methods as well.

5. Look Online to Score Last Minute Tickets

Fifth, you can check online days before the concert.  People often sell their tickets in a hurry because they can’t go, and sometimes you can find deeply discounted tickets this way.
