Suitable Gifts For a Child With Behavioral Problems

You child acts up in school, he acts out at home, and you don’t know what to do anymore. Don’t get discouraged. A lot of children act this way for a number of different reasons. It might sound strange but the first thing you need to do is to head to the toy store and go shopping!

According to former child psychologist, Brian Simpson, children with behavioral problems need to be surrounded by structure, achievement, and to have chances presented for cooperation. Simpson suggests that shopping for appropriate toys, games, and puzzles can be great for this. Your child will be surrounded by things that can really help them to engage with something outside themselves.

First, start shopping for puzzles. Puzzles help children stay on task, and give a feeling of working towards a finite goal. Shop for puzzles that are goal-oriented and challenging…. but not too challenging. Solving puzzles builds confidence in achievement. Puzzles are also inexpensive, so throw some Lego in your shopping cart, too. According to Simpson, Lego teaches children to follow instructions. Your child will see his finished product and feel a sense of accomplishment.

If your child loves computer games, run to the gaming store and buy a couple of cheap ‘classic’ problem solving games such as Lego, Lemmings, Tetris or other similar shape-manipulation games. They will encourage your child to use their brain rather than their muscles and voice to get things done!

Since that Lego you were shopping for were on sale, grab a ball and a couple of gloves for your shopping cart. Try introducing your child to a structured sport like baseball. He can play with kids or adults, and these games promote cooperation and sportsmanship. Adding a basketball and a soccer ball to that shopping cart will expose your child to other sports, too.

Just because your child exhibits behavior problems now, doesn’t mean he or she can’t be helped in future. By shopping for these things, you’re already on the road to behavior improvement!
