How to Teach Your Children to be Humble During the Holidays

The holidays are a time of giving and receiving, and for kids it can be a time of receiving all of the things that they want most in the world.  There is nothing wrong with this – we all want our kids to be happy – but we also want them to grow up with humility, grateful for the things that they receive.

One thing that every family can and should consider at the holidays is giving to others.  Showing your children how to give to others through donations, volunteering their time to charities such as soup kitchens and the Salvation Army can help them learn to be more grateful.

Teaching them about children who do not receive gifts or who may not be able to have the same type of Christmas that they experience can also teach them to be humble about what they have.

Raising humble children also means teaching by example.  Show generosity all year, not just around the holidays, and make it a point to be grateful for the things in your life.  You want your children to see how much you appreciate the things that you receive in life, and there is no better way than to express it in front of them.

Work to ensure that you aren’t always looking for newer and better things, and aim to be more humble in your own life.  You will find that your example is the best possible way to teach your children to live the same way.
