How to Replace a Light Fixture

If you have an old light fixture, you might need to replace it at some point. Before you call a professional, however, you may want to try to replace the light fixture yourself. It isn’t difficult when you have a little bit of knowledge and the following tips.

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that you turn the power off to the light fixture. You need to turn off the power, not just the light switch! If you do not know where to find the power in your home, you should consult a professional to take care of the light fixture. You don’t want to have an accident.

After you’ve turned off the power, remove the current housing over the light fixture. Remove the wires that attach the fixture to the wall or ceiling. You will then be able to connect the wires to the new fixture and mount it to the ceiling or the wall.

These are the basics of removing and replacing a light fixture. Because there are so many different types of light fixtures, it’s always a good idea to follow the guidelines with ceiling fans, chandeliers, and other illuminating products.

If you encounter a problem when you are replacing your light fixture, do not feel ashamed if you have to call a professional or a friend for help. When it comes to electricity, you don’t want to make “best guesses” on how to do things!
