Cleaning Grout On Your Tile Floors

If you have tile floors, you will find that your grout can get stained easily.  Whether it is from kitchen grease, mold or even just grime from floor traffic, keeping grout clean is a real chore.  Here are some simple tips and tricks to help make cleaning easier.

Whenever you need to clean the grout on your tile floors, it is always important to begin with a cleaner that is not overly acidic.  Baking soda mixed with just enough water to make a paste is an excellent natural cleaner and you can rub it in with a stiff brush.  Clean in a circular motion and you will find that your floors are much easier to clean.

You will also find that a mixture of one part vinegar and one part water can make an effective cleaner that can be easily sponged on and wiped off. Let it soak for as long as possible for maximum cleaning power.

If you need something a bit more effective, try to avoid bleach unless absolutely necessary, as over time bleach can discolor and lighten your tiles.  Instead, consider the use of a commercial grout cleaner.  A cleaner that is pH balanced won’t erode your grout over time, ensuring that your flooring remains in good condition.  Allow the cleaner to sit for a few minutes, scrub according to the directions on the product, and rinse if necessary.

Keeping your grout clean requires a bit of elbow grease, but with the right products it doesn’t have to be overly difficult!
