How to Tell if it is Time to Change the Tires on Your Car

Everyone who owns a car is going to have to visit an auto mechanic and change their tires at some point.  The question is, when is the right time to change them, and how often must you do it?  This doesn’t have an easy answer for a few reasons.  First, we will look at the average numbers that will help you judge when you need to change them.

On average, most people should change their tires every two or three years, or every time you hit 50,000 miles.  If you drive a lot, you will naturally have to change them more often.  You should also check the owner’s manual if you happen to have it.  If you bought your car used and it didn’t have a manual, or if you’ve lost your manual, you will find that a number of them are now online.

Of course, there are quite a few variables.  Certain types of cars may run through them more quickly.  If there is a problem with your frame, or how the tires sit on your vehicle, you might need to change them more often.  Certain brands of tires can last longer than others will.

When you are buying the new tires, you should check to see what other people have to say about them and how long they are going to last.  Check online forums to find people who have the same type of tire you are considering.

You shouldn’t ever adhere strictly to numbers when you are getting ready to change them.  Do a visual inspection and if they look bald, change them out!
