The Top 5 Best Family Friendly Resorts on the West Coast

When you’re planning a trip to a family resort, sometimes it’s good to shake things up a bit.  The kids may want to go to Disneyland if you’re planning a West Coast trip, but you don’t have to fight the crowds to make sure that everyone has a good time.  Many travel agents have listed their top five West Coast family resorts, and not one of them includes a visit with the famous Mouse-House.

For a Polynesian experience, the Kahala Mandarin Oriental in Hawaii is a top pick.  Older kids can participate in the dolphin programs and learn about Hawaiian history.  For family resorts, you can’t beat this one, because while the kids are at play, the adults can enjoy some serious luxury and pampering.

Alaska offers family resorts, too.  The Chena Hot Springs Resort is surrounded by pristine wilderness that will leave the kids in awe and parents with some stunning family photographs.  Adults will enjoy the healing waters of the springs, and kids will be excited by the Northern Lights.  Don’t forget to venture away from the family resorts for gold mining or an Alaska Railroad train ride.

California offers plenty for the imagination, and family resorts are easy to find.  The Alisal Guest Ranch is located thirty-five miles from Santa Barbara, and kids will enjoy the arts and crafts when they can’t be on a horse. The weather is incredible and the shopping is great. Also, don’t overlook Knott’s Berry Farm, located in the neighboring Orange County.  Adults and kids alike will enjoy the fun-filled park, and Medieval Times is just a short drive away.

Washington has its fair share of family resorts, too, like the Suncadia Resort.  Kids will enjoy the child-oriented activities, and might even go for a round of golf with the parents.  Winter months offer plenty of opportunities for skiing, too, making it a trip that the whole family will enjoy.
