Top 5 Places to Take Your Dad on a Road Trip for Father’s Day

Let’s face it – you and your dad aren’t getting any younger.  Road trips are a great way to bond and strengthen your relationship.  While the destination is your ultimate goal, don’t forget the journey can be just as much fun – or even more.  Your destination will depend on what type of guy your pop is.  Not only that, it’s not like you’ll be alone; the U.S. Travel Association reports that 30 percent of adult leisure travel are those traveling with their children.

Number 5 – Cave City, Kentucky

Home to Mammoth Cave National Park, Cave City is an offbeat place to vacation. There is plenty to see and do; Mammoth Cave is the world’s longest cave, 53,000 acres of park offer outdoor activities, and many different attractions are nearby.  Cave City offers dinosaur museums, restored Wild West towns and horseback riding. Being in the middle of the country means you have one heck of a road trip ahead of you.

Number 4 – Las Vegas, Nevada

Everyone who has seen “The Hangover” knows a little something about Las Vegas.  Sure it has casinos, luxury hotels and all you can eat seafood buffets, but that is not all.  Las Vegas – aside from having 17 of the 20 largest hotels in the country – has museums, world class golf courses and gorgeous scenery.  Once there, you can rent an exotic car and go for a drive out to the Hoover Dam or Lake Mead, which is the largest water reservoir in the U.S.

Number 3 – Washington, D.C.

This is an obvious choice for any spot on the list.  The nation’s capitol, and also home to a large amount of historical sites, is a phenomenal destination.  You can ride an elevator up the Washington Monument, sit in on a session of Congress and tour the White House.  A short drive away is the Chesapeake Bay and numerous state parks offering all the outdoors activities you can handle.

Number 2 – New York City

What’s not to love about New York City?  The Big Apple has everything anyone could want to see, but isn’t very friendly for driving around.  This is a place you will want to use public transportation to get around, and there is no shortage of sights.  From the Statue of Liberty to Times Square, this is a tourist destination that has it all.  Restaurants, Broadway shows, shopping and museums are just a small portion of what NYC has to offer.

Number 1 – Grand Canyon, Arizona

This routinely is at the top of travel lists as a “must see” for a reason.  Apart from breath-taking views and fantastic scenery, the Grand Canyon offers hiking up and down both sides.  Take a stroll on the sky walk that juts out over the edge of the canyon.  Take a mule trip to the bottom and finish off with a rafting trip down the river. The inexplicable views will be forever memorable and a great way to spend Father’s Day.
