Street Food Tops Off the Philadelphia Travel Experience

When you travel to Philadelphia, you want your trip to leave you with an idea of what the city really has to offer.  You likely already know what sights you want to see and what activities you want to enjoy, but have you thought about what you want to eat while you are there?

Local cuisine is a big part of any travel experience, and trying the street food is the best way to ensure that you are really eating local.  Here are the best street food options in Philadelphia.

Of course the most important option in Philadelphia is a Philly cheesesteak.  There are a couple of places in the city that claim to have given birth to the Philly, but the bottom line is that you have to try it.  In fact, the two main people who claim to have invented the sandwich are located across the street from one another on 9th and Passayunk (Pat’s and Geno’s Steaks).  In Philadelphia, most people make the sandwich with shredded roast beef and Cheez Whiz, and no trip to the city is complete without trying it.

If you happen to be on 33rd street, Ton Ton is a surprisingly great Japanese food cart that offers a number of dishes including a curried rice omelet and stuffed seaweed.  Yue Kee, located on 38th street is a Philadelphia food truck that offers everything from pork bellies to steak tips.

The city’s best soul food can be found in a pink truck located on 30th and Market Streets, where Denise’s soul food offers Philadelphia residents and visitors everything from mac and cheese to peach cobbler.
