The Strangest Foods to Be Found at America’s State Fairs

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I wonder what that food would taste like if it were fried?” or perhaps mused, “This would be better with powdered sugar or on a stick!”  Put your belt to the next notch up and get ready as we tell you about some of America’s strangest state fair food, where all of the above has already been tried… and successfully marketed.

Texas

Our first stop is good old Texas, the king of fried food.  Of course, you’ve seen fried Oreos and Twinkies, but have you ever tried fried butter?  Perhaps a fried margarita or a fried coke is more to your liking, all of which you can find here, believe it or not.  Whatever food you are looking for, you can find it fried at the Texas State Fair.

Arizona

Just a hop, skip and a jump away is the Arizona State Fair and its fantastic fair food creations.  Sure, you could dine on apple dumplings and belly buster burgers, but the real fun food comes in smaller sizes.  Their local delicacies include fried scorpions, crickets, and even fried lizards!  You can even try a mealworm-covered caramel apple.  Remember, don’t play with your food … unless it starts playing with you first!

Indiana

The Indiana State Fair is next in line for crazy fair fast food.  How does a pork parfait sound?  You get pulled pork layered with mashed potatoes and barbecue sauce served up looking just like a layered parfait.  Other foods not to be missed include fried jellybeans at the Massachusetts State Fair, spam curds at the Minnesota State Fair and emu tacos at the North Carolina State Fair.  Dig in!

Why not get out there and try some of America’s strangest foods at your own state fair?  Fried to perfection, of course!
