Why Weight Loss Pills May Do You More Harm Than Good

Many people would like nothing more than a weight loss pill. But before you go spending money on pills that promise to help you shed pounds or inches from your waistline, you should know a few important facts.

Firstly, there are only a few different ways that pills can help with weight loss. One of them is to increase your metabolism. This, of course, fosters weight loss by burning calories. You may want to consult a doctor before you take anything that increases your heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate!

Remember too that when a doctor hands out pills of any kind, they’re doing so with an expert knowledge and years of training in pharmacology and physiology. When you buy pills from vendors or even internet sites who sell untested, unproven solutions, you have no idea what you’re buying. You could be buying pills that contain unsafe amounts of caffeine or other metabolism-increasing drugs, or you could be forking over $100 for pills which are made out of ground chalk and food coloring. You simply have no way of knowing. You may also be setting yourself up to burn more money than fat.

Weight loss requires fewer calories, more activity and a better diet. Pills may help, but there are few that doctors will hand out for this and they only do so in the most extreme cases, where weight loss may be an issue of life and death.

The bottom line is that you should always consult with your doctor before taking any weight loss pills you’ve bought or been given. No matter how much expertise a trainer or herbalist appears to have in weight loss, they are not a pharmacist and, unless their product has been tested by the FDA, they may well not only be guilty of not knowing what they’re talking about, but also they may actually have no idea what they’re selling as a weight loss aid.
