Have Oatmeal at Breakfast for a Healthy Start to the Day

You’ve probably heard this a thousand times before; breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is true, but too many people either skip their breakfast or have a poor substitute such as a donut or fast food (Egg McMuffin, anyone?). The key to living a healthy life is to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. Too many people do just the opposite.

When you are trying to decide what you want to make for breakfast, one of the best choices you will find is oatmeal. It has plenty of good carbohydrates that will provide energy for many hours. Oatmeal is also great for helping to reduce bad cholesterol, making it a great, heart-healthy breakfast food. Recent research shows that it can even help to reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes. It is also great for helping with blood pressure problems.

If you are trying to lose weight, try having oatmeal for breakfast. It has plenty of fiber, which means you are going to feel full for much longer. You will also have plenty of energy for when you hit the gym (fun tip: You should have some protein immediately after the gym to help your body recover from a workout).

Of course, you will always want to buy 100% natural oatmeal for breakfast. This means you should avoid those brands that have pre-sweetened oatmeal. Instead, you can add cinnamon or fruit to give your oatmeal a bit more flavor and a better taste. Always try to add oatmeal to your breakfast table. It’s great for everyone in the family – and cheaper than cereal!
