How to Make Fried Turkey For Thanksgiving

One of the most popular departures from the traditional baked Thanksgiving turkey is to fry the meat.  You will find that deep frying a Thanksgiving turkey offers you moist meat, less grease than you might think and some excellent flavor.  You don’t even really need a recipe for this easy to prepare dish.

You will need some equipment for your Thanksgiving turkey if you decide to fry it.  You will need a turkey fryer to start with.  This should include a forty or sixty quart pot, a propane tank, turkey frying hardware and more.  You also need to make sure that you have a fire extinguisher handy, as accidents can and do happen.

Heat your oil in the frying pot first.  You want about three hundred and fifty degrees here.  Next, use a turkey basket to gently lower the turkey into the pot.  You can also use a turkey hanger here.  Do NOT be tempted to drop the turkey in – hot oil can cause serious burns!

For a fried Thanksgiving turkey, you need to cook it for about three minutes per pound.  You should never exceed a turkey of about fifteen pounds, so your maximum cooking time should be about forty-five minutes.  Before you remove it, make sure that your Thanksgiving turkey is at least one hundred and eighty degrees in the thigh meat.  Carefully remove the turkey using your basket or hanger.  Remember, hot oil will burn you, so use caution.

You should now let your Thanksgiving turkey rest a bit before you carve into it – about fifteen minutes should do the trick.
