Last Minute Thanksgiving Gift Shopping: There’s Still Time to Get it Together!

If you’re being invited over to somebody’s house for Thanksgiving, whether that person is family or a friend, it’s always nice to bring them a small gift for their children or an item for their table. Instead of going for that cheap bottle of House Red, here are some last minute Thanksgiving gift ideas that will go down well.

1. A Home Made Dish

Anyone can buy a Thanksgiving contribution to the table at a store, but making the dish yourselves means a lot to the family, as you have put your own personal time into it. Dishes that always go down well are usually deserts such as Apple or Rhubarb pie, or perhaps some delicious oatmeal raisin cookies that you’ve baked yourself. You’ll surely be invited back again if you supply a wonderful home-made desert.

2. A Table Decoration

There are plenty of autumn-themed decorations you can make that will add a great Thanksgiving theme to the table of your host. Try making up an autumn-themed basket, or bring fresh or dried flowers that can be arranged tastefully to add an autumn atmosphere to the table. Add a spray of Cinnamon oil to dried flowers for that delicious ‘pumpkin pie’ scent.

3. An Act of Service

If you feel like your last minute gifts are a little dry or lame, add something to them which can be redeemed later. In other words, hop on your computer and make a home-made certificate for a free date or an act of service. It can be something practical (like offering to help weed their garden) or something fun (like taking their kids to the theme park for the day, giving them a much needed break), or something romantic (a one hour back and foot rub always goes down well with the ladies).

4. Thanksgiving-Themed Gift Baskets

Again, you can’t go wrong with these gifts because they have a high perceived value and most of the time include practical things you know they’ll find a use for…. and if not, they can always re-gift them, saving THEM the job of gift-shopping for someone else later. Job done!
