Are the Star Wars Movies Child Friendly Entertainment?

It is interesting to note that there are now multiple generations of people who consider themselves to be great fans of the different Star Wars movies. There are the people who lived during the 1970s and 1980s as the original movies were released into theaters, and then there are those who participated in the re-emergence of the franchise in the late 1990s and early 2000s, as the final movies in the series were created and released, too.

Are these six movies the most popular children’s films of all time? It would be hard to point to another franchise that has garnered such long-lasting and enduring loyalty. Consider that there are now people in their 30s and 40s who saw the original movies when they first appeared in theaters, and who still watch them with their own children today. These same people are the reason that many toys and games connected to the Star Wars movies are such a popular form of entertainment, too.

What do the movies offer that give them such potent appeal to kids of all ages? Just consider that they are epic in scale and yet offer one of the simplest story lines of all time – the fight of good against evil. Consider too that there is the famous “dark side” of “the force” which is competing directly with the more benevolent “Jedi” and that this battle is what drives the six movies in the franchise. The struggle for the good characters to overcome the temptation of the dark side, and its power, is the core of the movies. Many viewers compare the films to mythology, and the thousands of years that such oral tales have endured can easily demonstrate why Star Wars movies appeal to kids and adults alike.
