Is Sylvester Stallone Too Old for Action Films and Movies?

We have all heard that age is relative and that “you are only as old as you feel.”  What about in the movies? After all, it is the movies which seem to dictate what is attractive, appealing, sexy, and fashionable. Just consider someone like Sylvester Stallone. He is around 65 years old, and is still one of the leading players in many modern action movies. Is he too old for his current major role in the movies?

Let’s just assess this for a moment. He is old enough to be a grandfather and to retire. He is part of the “baby boom” generation which is beginning to be referred to also as “senior citizens.”  How is it then that he appears in movies in which he is seen without a shirt, performing all kinds of athletic feats, and generally looking fitter and more capable than a man half his age?

Is it the magic of the movies, or is it simply a case of “mind over matter?” Sylvester Stallone is a good example of how to remain young regardless of your actual age. Most would agree that it might be very difficult for the average person to maintain the same sort of fitness regimen that Stallone must do on a daily basis. He does this sort of rigorous muscle building, however, as a way of sustaining his ability to garner roles suitable to his acting skills in many action movies. This means that he may not be a remarkably gifted actor, but his contribution to the genre of action movies cannot be devalued.

After all, consider the history of the cinema if it were without such classics as the “Rocky” movies or the equally famous “Rambo” franchise. While Sylvester Stallone may be too old for some of the movies he made a few decades ago, he has solidified his position in the eyes of his fans as a reigning king of action films.
