Does the Swiffer Beat the Traditional Mop for Cleaning Hardwood Floors?

If you have hardwood floors, you know just how hard it can be to keep them clean and looking nice all the time.  There are numerous tools out there, but are they really worth it?  One of the newest and most popular options for cleaning floors is the Swiffer mop, but how does it compare to a regular mop?

First, let’s take a look at how both work for cleaning floors.  The traditional mop requires water, cleaning solution of some type and little more.  For the Swiffer, you do not need to use even water and cleaning solution, as the Swiffer comes with its own cleansing pads.

When it comes to dry time and lack of streaks, the Swiffer wins hands down for cleaning floors.  Using a traditional mop can leave your floor wet for a long time and can most certainly leave streaks behind.

However, there is one significant drawback to using a Swiffer to clean your floors as opposed to a regular mop. A Swiffer is not an ideal solution for large areas and/or heavy dirt.  While you can most certainly use your Swiffer to clean large floors or heavily soiled areas, you will use more cleansing pads than you might think.  This can quickly add up to a considerable expense.  And of course all those mop pads go straight to the landfill, which doesn’t make it the most eco-friendly of cleaning options.

In summary, Swiffers are better for light cleaning, rather than deep cleaning of your floors. If you have heavy traffic areas and floors that see lighter traffic, you could conceivably use both tools to your advantage.
