Space Saver Tips: How to Save Space in Your Kitchen

It is important that you save space in your kitchen because most kitchens have limited storage space. If you go shopping each week for new items, you’ll soon run out of space if you buy more than you eat on a regular basis.  In order to maximize the use of this area, consider these helpful tips.

Maximize Cabinet Space
The part of the kitchen that you can save space with is the cabinets. If you don’t store many tall items in here, consider installing extra shelves ion the spaces between the shelves. For storing flat items like packets and cans, you could double your storage space straight away.  For crockery cabinets, buy plate stacking racks and use them to stack different sized plates on these miniature stand-alone ‘shelves.’

Declutter Your Cupboards

If each time you open a cupboard you are hit in the head by a waterfall of sliding Tupperware containers, it’s time to declutter. First, find a large, sturdy cardboard box. Take everything out of each cupboard, one cupboard at a time, and sort out any items that you have not used in at least a year. Give the clean unused items to a thrift store. Stack the remaining items neatly.

Check Your Pans

Also discard any excessively burned pots and pans that you’ve been holding onto. Each time you use these, you are adding carcinogens to your food, as well as any nice flaky bits of Teflon that feel like peeling off. Yuck! You can buy a whole new set of cheap pans from a home goods store like Big Lots or Target without breaking the bank.

Use Wall Space
Many kitchen items can hang on your kitchen walls to save space.  Spice racks can be purchased and installed on the end of one your cabinets.  You can also hang your microwave over the stove top, which will free up a considerable amount of space on your countertop.  Small wall shelves can also be used to free up room on your countertops.

Store Unused Appliances
To save space in your kitchen, you may want to consider storing unused small appliances in other parts of your home.  Appliances that rarely get used may include a deep fryer or a stockpot.  These items are so large that they will take up a considerable amount of your cabinet area.  By storing these items elsewhere, you will be able to save space in your kitchen cabinets for other items.
