What Top Qualities Should You Look for in a Partner?

When you are looking for someone to love, someone with whom you want to share the rest of your life, you probably have a list of qualities that you are hoping to find.  You might want to find someone who is attractive, has a great, well-paid job and is natural at being funny.  Someone with the same ideals and morals as you is most likely crucial to your search. 

Certainly, all of these things are going to have some bearing on the partner you choose.  But overall, what is the most important trait to look for in a partner?

The top answer that you may not even be considering is character.  A person’s character is how they express their lifelong nature, and you won’t be able to judge a person’s true character from an online profile on a dating website or at a singles bar after a ten minute conversation.  You will need to meet and date the prospective partner and watch their interactions with other people before you find out their true character.

One of the mistakes that many people make is to judge their new partner only by how they treat you.  Keep in mind that you are new to their life, so you will be treated like you’re their first priority in the beginning.  You need to see how the person treats other people in their lives that they’ve been around for years.  How they treat strangers and family members, even their own mother, is crucial to how they will eventually treat you.  A person with a good heart is ten times more hard to find than a person with a pretty face.

Character can encompass a lot, but once you understand the character of your current partner, it will be easy to determine if you want to be with him or her for the long haul.  Do not settle with someone simply because he or she is wealthy or attractive.  Looks fade, and a fortune can be taken away in an instant by bad luck or an accident.  The character of a true partner, a true lifelong love, should be much deeper and more meaningful than looks or money.
