Which Saves More Money Paper Towels or Dishrags?

Kitchen cleanup is certainly a chore that no one enjoys. Whether it involves wiping up a quick spill or handling large cleaning tasks, cleanup requires the right tools for the job.

When it comes to these clean up jobs, do you use paper towels or dishrags? Which will save you the most money in the long run? Let’s compare and consider which is better – paper towels or dishrags.

When it comes to saving money, it is hard to make an argument for paper towels. After all, every time you use paper towels, you have to throw them away. If you use a great deal of paper towels, you most likely have to buy new rolls every time you visit the grocery store. Paper towels may be handy, but they do cost more money in the long run.

Dishrags, on the other hand, are reusable, and can be just as effective as paper towels. In order to make use of dishrags, you will just need to make sure they are properly cleaned and sanitized. If you plan on making the switch to dishrags alone, make sure you keep them washed, preferable with a little bleach to make sure they are cleaning up germs and not just spreading them around your kitchen. In this sense, unless you have a perfect cleanup and sterilization routine, they are more cost effective but least hygienic.

To illustrate: a recent study found that there are actually more health-harming germs living on the average dishrag or re-usable dish washing sponge than are found on the same family’s toilet seat!  Definitely food for thought.

When it comes to the showdown between paper towels vs. dishrags for cost effective cleanups, dishrags will always win. They are reusable, durable, and hard working on any kitchen mess. Just be sure to keep them cleaned and sterilized and you’ll be fine.  Paper towels are simple and convenient, but since they can only be used once, they will end up costing more money in the end.
