What Causes Anxiety and Panic Attacks?

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health issues in the country today, yet few people really seem to know anything about it.  There are thousands of people who experience symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks and yet have never sought treatment.

Anxiety can be mild to severe.  Panic attacks can cause anything from a racing pulse and fearful feelings, to symptoms that mimic a heart attack.  Let’s look at how panic attacks impact your health and how to deal with them.

The first thing to know is that panic attacks are not immediately dangerous.  While they can mimic the symptoms of a heart attack when severe, they are not life threatening.  They can, however, leave people feeling unable to leave their homes for fear that the attacks will strike.  Left untreated, severe anxiety can also lead to a higher rate of heart troubles and illnesses over time due to stress.

If panic attacks have become an issue in your life, speaking with your local doctor is always advised.  Anxiety medication is not always the answer, and your doctor may be able to help you learn more about counseling, exercise, and other treatments.

In many cases, anxiety therapy can help you talk your way to the underlying cause of your anxiety so that it may be remedied.  With exercise, you can help rid your body of excess energy and hormones that can lead to panic attacks.  Diet and nutrition also play a role in anxiety.  With the right treatment, you can say goodbye to panic attacks for good.
