Is a Cover Letter Essential When Job Hunting?

If you are in the middle of job hunting, you are probably working your hardest to get everything just right.  You work hard to create the perfect resume, you polish up on your interview questions, and you make certain that you try to figure out just what a prospective employer is looking for.

So what about your resume?  Your prospective employer didn’t ask for a cover letter, so what do you do?  Do you include one or do you just let it go and let your resume do all the talking for you?

Believe it or not, a cover letter is considered standard business etiquette.  Even when a prospective job ad does not ask for a cover letter, you may find that many employers will simply discard any resumes that do not include them.  Taking the time to create a well crafted and personalized cover letter is absolutely worth the time that it takes, and you will find that it greatly increases your chances of landing the job interview.

Are you aware of these work perks and how they’ll make your life easier?

In addition to being proper etiquette when job hunting, providing a cover letter also offers you the chance to sell yourself to an employer.  You should be succinct, but this is your way to pitch yourself to the company.

With this in mind, you should never pass up such an opportunity as this.  Take the time to craft a well thought out letter that explains why you are a good fit for each job or position you apply to, attach it to the proper resume, and then submit.  Good luck!
