Home Cleaning Tips: How to Properly Clean the Toilet

One area of your home that requires detailed cleaning is the bathroom.  Your toilet can present a challenge, as it can be the home of various germs.  If you are concerned that your cleaning methods may not leave your toilet clean, listed below are some tips that can help ensure that your toilet is completely sanitized.

Use the Right Products

While cleaning your toilet, it is imperative that you use the right products.  Disinfectants are the number one product to use, as there are countless germs that need to be destroyed.  It is important that you also use paper towels and discardable plastic gloves (these can be bought in multi-packs of 100), as they can be discarded once they have been used.

Spray & Sit

Most disinfectants will need to sit undisturbed for a specific amount of time, which allows them to kill the germs that are present on your toilet.  Once the recommended amount of time has lapsed, you can wipe the sprayed areas and discard the towel. Do not reuse the paper towel in your cleaning process, as you can spread the germs that you just removed to another area.

Scrub the Bowl

To clean the bowl of your toilet, turn the water off to the toilet and flush one or two times until the bowl’s water level is low.  Then spray your disinfectant in the bowl and wait for it to work.  Use the toilet brush to scrub the bowl.  Turn on the water and flush to complete the cleaning process.

Cleaning your toilet does not have to be a struggle.  With the right tips, it is easy to disinfect and clean your toilet.
