Dining Out Guide: the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan

If you are visiting Mackinac Island in Michigan, then you have a wealth of things to enjoy.  However, one of your first destinations should be the Grand Hotel.  Here, you will find history, great food and plenty of atmosphere.  What should you know about the Grand Hotel?

 

First, the Grand Hotel was actually founded in 1887, and was built as a hotel and restaurant, funded by the railroads and a steamship company.  One of the Grand Hotel’s claims to fame is actually their porch.  The Grand Hotel boasts the world’s largest porch, measuring almost 700 feet in length.

 

For those who choose to visit, the Grand Hotel boasts many things to see and do.  The Tea Garden is a great place to stroll, while the property also offers a full 18-hole golf course.  The Grand Hotel also provides the Esther Williams Swimming Pool – a resort style swimming pool.  There are also jogging and walking trails surrounding the property.

 

Dining is also an enjoyable experience at the Grand Hotel.  The Salle a Manger is the main dining room, and serves both breakfast and dinner every day.  There is also a Grand Luncheon Buffet served to guests of the Grand Hotel. 

 

Of course, the Fort Mackinac Tea Room is also a fantastic place to visit and offers lunch inside Fort Mackinac.  There is also the Gate House restaurant on property, for those who want even more diversity in their meals.

 

The Grand Hotel offers history, enjoyment and a considerable number of dining venues – your visit will certainly be enjoyable.
