How to Give Your Wife a Great First Mother’s Day

The very first Mother’s Day after welcoming a baby into the world will be remembered forever by your wife, but it’s important to not lose perspective.  The day will be special any way you spend it and no matter what you give her as a present, so don’t wear yourself ragged trying to come up with the perfect gift.

The standard gift to give your wife on her first Mother’s Day is jewelry, either for herself or for the baby.  The bracelet or necklace should contain your little one’s birthstone, as well as your own birthstone and your wife’s.  The three stones together represent your unified family and will be a cherished gift she can always keep. Your little one will probably be fascinated to see their bracelet when they are older, and will marvel at just how tiny their wrists used to be!

Another option is to present your wife with a charm bracelet on Mother’s Day.  There are sterling silver and gold charms available that can symbolize the baby’s life, and your own hopes and dreams for his or her later achievements.  From initials to miniature horoscope signs, there are plenty of gorgeous charms to commemorate the occasion, and they’re not all that expensive.  Borrow one of your wife’s favorite bracelets and take it to the jewelry store, to ensure you have the right size.

As far as spending the day together, you should do whatever you can to help your wife relax and unwind.  That may mean arranging for grandparents to come over and take the baby for the afternoon, to give Mama a much-needed break!  Once you’re alone, make the afternoon all about her.  Does she like relaxing with a good book, or does she love to watch classic movies?  Make sure that you carve out some time in the day that’s just for her to take a break from her daily duties, and cater to her needs.  Make her tea or a light lunch, and get fancy by bringing her a bell to ring whenever she’s in need of something.

Once she’s had some time to herself, you can enjoy some family time together.  You don’t have to do anything fancy to make Mother’s Day memorable – you can go with your wife and baby for a stroll to the park, or just spend the day with relatives.  Be sure to bring a camera and snap some pictures of the pair together.  This will be a day that she’ll want to remember for a long time.

In the end, the day should be about finding a few moments of peace and quiet to simply enjoy each other’s company, and to give thanks for the tiny miracle that has entered your lives.  There are no rules – just be spontaneous and give your wife plenty of attention on her special day.
