Let Art Paint Your World at Your Local Art Museum

Are you a cultured person with an appreciation for art? Before you head out to your local art museum again, here are some helpful tips to add to your enjoyment.

Take your membership card with you! This may sound ridiculous, but many people who donate to the art museum often forget their membership card when they visit, which can help you get great discounts on admission as well as on special exhibits. Also, make sure you stop in at the gift shop, where members also usually see a hefty discount, so you can let art paint your world at home, too!

Do some research on your favorite piece located within the museum so that when you look at it again, you can see it with a fresh eye. Even knowing the types of paint the artist used when creating the piece can really open your eyes to the process of art.  Oil paint, watercolor paint and acrylic paint all give the creation a different look and feel. For instance, can you imagine Monet’s ‘Water Lillies’ if he’d used brightly colored acrylics? Or Evard Munch’s brightly colored ‘The Scream’ if it had been done using graphic pencil?

Take a friend with you when you go to an art gallery. You may be surprised to see how exciting it is to share a piece of art with another person. Watching a friend’s reaction and getting to share thoughts and opinions can give you a fresh perspective on your favorite piece.
