Hot Stone Therapy Legitimate Treatment or Waste of Time?

Hot stone therapy is a type of treatment that is used to help relieve stress.  It works by placing hot stones onto the body in order to produce muscle relaxation response.  It is often considered to be a type of massage therapy since the stones act as a way of applying pressure to the body.  This treatment is very relaxing and therapeutic, and is perfect for people of all ages.

Benefits of Hot Stone Therapy

There are several important benefits of using stones as therapy for your face.  Hot stones are able to gently provide heat directly into the facial areas that need it most.  Different sized stones work well for different sections such as the forehead, cheeks and chin.  Those with sinus trouble can often find relief after a stone therapy session.  Stones can provide warmth that is provided along with some level of steam.  This steam is effective at hydrating the skin while also improving the pores.

Hot Stones to Create Relaxation

Hot stone therapy is the perfect treatment for relaxation.  Not only does it relax the muscles, but it also gives you all-over stress relief.

The face is one of the hardest parts of the body to fully relax, so using these stones can really help facilitate total relaxation response.  You’ll also note that this type of relaxation technique is also helpful for increasing blood circulation.  Many people find the technique so relaxing that they often fall asleep during or immediately after the treatment.

How Hot Stone Therapy Works on the Face

Hot stone treatment uses heated stones that are applied to the face.  The stones that are used are typically very smooth, dark river stones.  These are stones that have come from river bottoms.  They are ideal for heating and using flat on the body.  The stones used are small enough so that they don’t feel heavy in any way, but large enough to apply a small amount of therapeutic pressure.

Methods of Massage

The stones are typically heated in water until they are about 93 degrees.  Before placing them onto the cheeks, chin and forehead, oil is applied.  You may use essential oil that is aromatic to provide aromatherapy while the stones are applied.  Then, four stones are placed onto the face.  One is placed under your lips, one on each cheek and one on the forehead.

A treatment may last between 30 minutes to one hour in length.  To get the most from this therapy, use the time to relax and meditate during the treatment.

The heat from the stones warms the oil, creating a very calming effect.  The heat also helps the oil penetrate the skin.  Soon you’ll notice that the tension in your face and in your whole body seems to be lifted.  Stone therapy replaces facial massages that traditionally used the hands to massage the facial area.  The treatment is very relaxing, not just for the face area, but also for the entire body.  It is a good therapy procedure for almost anyone and offers a rather pleasant experience.
