Home Cleaning Tips: How to Clean the Washing Machine

Your washing machine will require a good thorough cleaning at least once a year.  It is in your best interest to make sure that this device is dirt free, as it will ensure that it is performing at is optimum level.  If you have not performed a proper cleaning before, here are some points to help you with the cleaning process.

The Smell Test

If your washing machine currently has an odor, either inside or out, then you should definitely take the time to clean the unit.  You should begin cleaning by wiping the inside of the lid, as well as the dispensing areas.  You can use a non-abrasive cleaner that has disinfecting agents.  For intense dirt removal, you will have to remove the dispensing cups and soak them in hot water.

Hot Water and Vinegar Solution

The basin is the main part of the washing machine that is going to require the most cleaning.  To clean this part of the device, set the load size to the largest setting and set the temperature of the water to hot.  Then fill the basin with hot water and pour in 2 cups of vinegar.  Let this mixture stand from a half an hour to one hour before cleaning the basin.  After the time has passed, you will then close the lid and let the washer machine complete a full cycle.

Cleaning your washing machine is an easy and quick task that you should complete annually.  Using the tips above, you will find that your clothes are always clean and smelling wonderful!
