Are Hardwood or Vinyl Floors Better for Your Home?

When you need to replace flooring in your home, you have many options available to you.  Hardwood flooring is very popular, but it isn’t for everyone or every home.  Instead, find out if you are better off getting hardwood or vinyl “hardwood” floors for your home.

Hardwood floors are certainly elegant.  They are sturdy, hold weight well, and look fantastic.  Unfortunately, however they can also wear easily.  This is especially true in homes with large dogs or multiple children.  They can be easy to clean on a regular basis, but the wood often needs to be treated to stay in good condition.  With this said, however, they are a great fit for homes where there is not a lot of damage being done to floors.

Vinyl “hardwood” floors are considerably more durable.  They offer the look of hardwood without the ease of damage.  They can be cleaned in a snap, and unless you tell someone, it is often hard for others to detect that your floors are not made of wood.  Older vinyl floors had a very artificial look, but the modern version is quite stylish and attractive and looks like the genuine article.

Whether or not real hardwood floors are right for you really depends on your household and your budget.  Vinyl floors cost a relatively small amount of money compared with real hardwood, and if you have large rooms or multiple floors to cover, you may save thousands of dollars by going with vinyl.

When you are ready to replace the floors in your home, you may wish to consider both types to determine which is best suited for your needs.
