What is a Brazilian Blowout and is it Bad For Your Hair?

A Brazilian blowout is a chemical hair treatment that is used for straightening purposes. It involves a roughly 1 to 1.5 hour treatment and, at some salons, costs well over $100 to have done.

This hair treatment has become very popular with celebrities.  It allows individuals with curly or frizzy hair to reduce their flyaway problems.  Although it is associated with straightening, it’s not the same as most straightening treatments.

The Brazilian blowout is popular because it makes maintaining the look of your hair very easy. After treatment, you can straighten your hair with nothing more than a hairdryer, no brush required.  The straightening isn’t as severe as Japanese or other treatments.  This hair treatment relaxes your curls or frizz, but it doesn’t straighten it to the point that there’s no curl at all.  You can think of it more as a control treatment than a treatment that eliminates curl altogether.

The Brazilian blowout treatment may be a bit intimidating to people because of the price.  There are also concerns about the amount of formaldehyde used at some hairdressing salons.  Some clients have complained of nosebleeds and other problems, but nothing has been conclusively proven to be harmful about the treatment as of yet.

The Brazilian blowout can be used on any type of hair, making it a good option for those who have any type of mane that they want to improve, kinky, frizzy, curly or otherwise.
