Out of the Closet Celebrities Why It’s Now ‘In’ to be ‘Out’

Gay celebrities were once considered quite taboo, but public mentality has changed a lot in the past decade.  Gay celebrities are adored and revered by their fans, and for many people, their sexuality has little bearing on their celebrity status.  Here, we will look at a few gay celebrities who have managed to have wonderful (or not so wonderful) love lives in the public spotlight.

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi
This powerhouse couple are both wildly successful, and have been legally married. Portia has also adopted Ellen’s last name.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka
When How I Met Your Mother/Doogie Howser star Neil Patrick Harris came out, much of the public seemed shocked.  After all, his current television character is a ladies’ man with a lot of game.  Harris recently married his actor/partner David, and the couple are currently adopting twins.

George Takei and Brad Altman
In a move that surprised many, George Takei, who is best known as Sulu in the popular original Star Trek series, came out of the closet.  In 2008, Takei married his partner of 21 years, making him a role model for older gay celebrities.

Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson
This on-again, off-again couple made headlines throughout 2009 for their antics and drama, but ultimately proved that not all gay celebrities have relationships that are built to last.
