Does the Driveway Patrol Work to Deter Intruders?

Let’s face it, in today’s world we could all use a little more home security.  This thought led to the creation of the Driveway Patrol wireless alert system.  Typically sold via TV infomercials, this system is comprised of a sensor that you place in your driveway and a receiver that you keep in your home.  The purpose of the Driveway Patrol is to let you know when someone is coming into your yard or driveway.

Positive Reviews

The reviews on the Driveway Patrol are fairly mixed.  A number of people love the device and the convenience it offers them in letting them know when the cat wants in or when the mailman has arrived.  Very few of the raves have actually been about enhanced security, leading many to wonder if, at a minimum, the Driveway Patrol is being mismarketed.

Negative Reviews

The negative reviews of the device are fairly concerning.  Many people report dozens of false alarms each day, which has led to customers returning the device.  The company says that putting tape over the sensor to stop it being so sensitive may help, but it seems that this offers limited results.  Many also complain that the alarm included in the device is too loud, rarely works when needed, and often fails completely for no reason.

Ultimately, the Driveway Patrol may well be a device that had a great concept, which translated poorly into the actual product.  That much said, you get what you pay for.  While the Driveway Patrol isn’t the best infomercial device of the decade, it is certainly far from the worst.
