How To Easily Clean Your Blinds And Keep Them Looking New

Many people forget to clean their blinds around the house because they aren’t an item that most people inspect daily. Before long though, your blinds can get quite dirty. One of the best ways to clean your blinds and have them stay that way is to take preventative measures and make them a part of your daily or weekly cleaning routine.

Each time you clean the house, make sure that you dust or vacuum the blinds. You can use the brush attachment on the vacuum to clean blinds easily, and this will help to keep them from ever getting too dirty. In addition, since you will be looking at the blinds each time you clean, you will be able to see when they need to have a deeper cleaning.

With many styles, you can clean your blinds by removing them and placing them into some soapy, warm water such as your bathtub. Scrub the blinds with a soft cloth or dish-washing pad and then allow them to dry before hanging them. This works to clean blinds made of metal and plastic. If you are going to clean blinds made of wood, you will not want to soak them, as it could damage them. Simply wipe the blades down one by one with a damp cloth. Be sure to dry each blade when you have got all the dirt off. Use a paper towel or soft cloth to dry the blind. Do not let the water ‘sit’ on the wood too long or it may stain or warp it.

When you clean your blinds, you may notice that the ropes on them are dirty as well. You can fix this problem by adding some white shoe polish or bleaching liquid on a toothbrush to brighten them up a bit. As long as you take a proactive approach to clean your blinds regularly, you will find that they stay remarkably clean.
