Is a College Education Really Required in This Job Market?

The job market has never been more unstable, with the single exception being the Great Depression.  Finding any type of job is hard enough, but finding one that actually pays a living wage can seem next to impossible.

In a poor job market, it pays enormous dividends if you are able to stand out from the crowd, and having a college education is the best way to do just that.

Is a college education really that important in this day and age?  Actually, having a college education has never been more important.  There are several benefits, particularly when the job market gets competitive.  For instance, generally, the least qualified people will have the fewest potential jobs.  By having a college education, you are able to ensure that you are not one of these.

Second, when it comes to downsizing and layoffs, those who have the least amount of expertise are often the first to go.  Generally, these are people who do not have a college education or a strong history experience.  If you have the right education, you stand a better chance of avoiding "the axe" and keeping your current job.

A college education makes you a better hire in the eyes of many employers.  It shows that you have training, knowledge and education that other applicants lack, making you a better choice to fill a potential position.  There is information taught in school that isn’t always learned with experience, making you a stronger employee by earning a degree.
