How to Prepare a Healthy Breakfast For Your Children

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it is important that your kids eat something healthy, rather than something that is packed with sugar.  The right breakfast option will provide good nutrition, be filling and keep your child active and alert all day.  Here are some good choices for your kids to have for breakfast.

Eggs are always a great choice.  They offer lots of protein, and they are good for the body.  If you are one of those who has been worried about the cholesterol in eggs, don’t be.  Doctors still believe the jury is out on eggs, but as a general rule, if you’re eating something natural, it probably won’t hurt your child unless eaten in excess.

Another great choice for kids to have for breakfast is anything made with whole-grains.  Waffles, French toast and pancakes can all be great options for breakfast, but only if they are whole grain options.  If you’re eating out at a breakfast cafe, don’t forget to tell your waitress to give you wheat bread!

Oatmeal is another great breakfast option for kids.  Oatmeal is heart-healthy, and is low in saturated fat.  It is also filling, so kids will be fuller for longer after breakfast.  Don’t be afraid to mix in a little bit of brown sugar, yogurt or fruit.

Yogurt is a good choice for breakfast, as well, especially when you combine it with fresh fruit, such as apples, oranges or bananas.  This can be a great sweet breakfast that doesn’t have processed sugars.

Finally, you can also let your children enjoy a nice fruit smoothie for breakfast.  Smoothies combine the health benefits of different fruits into a drinkable breakfast that offers convenience and some excellent health benefits.

As you can see, there are many options to give your kids a healthy breakfast and start the day off right.  There are many other tasty breakfasts out there too, like cream of wheat or whole grain toast.
