How Buying New Home Appliances Can Save Money Long Term

Some high-end purchases, such as cars, are usually better deals when you purchase them used. New appliances, have some significant benefits that should not be overlooked.

Buying new appliances, of course, can be very expensive compared to used ones. But then, most often, new appliances come with ‘free’ warranties and service agreements that make them very good values for money. If you’re wearing a hole in the floor of the electronics store trying to decide whether to go for used or new appliances, the new option certainly has some strong selling points.

For starters, in the past 10 years, there have been significant advances in energy efficiency technology. While you may save a few bucks on used appliances initially, they oftentimes use far more energy, and thus cost far more money than new appliances.

The other significant benefit with new household appliances has to do with sanitation. While used appliances can be cleaned up nicely, they do deteriorate over time to a point whether, although they may look clean and shiny, they may be a health hazard waiting to happen. There may be old food stuck inside, coolant leaks, electrical wiring deterioration, or other problems that may cause trouble in the long run.

There is also the fact that, inevitably, old appliances will have less life left in them and that there’s no way of knowing when they’ll finally give up the ghost and need an expensive repair. With new appliances, the warranty will usually cover any such problems that arise with your purchase.
