Using Vinegar and Natural Cleaning Products to Clean Your Cat’s Litter Box

As a cat owner, you likely know how hard it is to keep a litter box or cat pan smelling clean and fresh, even if you scoop frequently and change the cat litter often.  The good news, however, is that natural cleaning products offer a great solution.  The green movement has pushed many people toward natural cleaning products in recent years, and you might be surprised to learn that the one thing you need to keep that litter box clean and fresh is likely already in your home.  All you really need is some household vinegar.

Vinegar is one of the best natural cleaning products you can buy.  It can be used on anything from laundry to kitchen appliances, and even in your cat litter box. 

Here’s what to do.  After you have emptied the box, but before you put new litter in, simply use vinegar to wash out the box.  Don’t dilute it, but simply pour it in neat and give the box a thorough scrubbing with an old soft brush.  The fact that vinegar is 100% natural in origin will let you know that it is safe and will not harm your (or your cat’s) health, and using it in its pure form will really clean and freshen the box.

Once the box has been scrubbed, pour out any remaining vinegar and allow it to dry naturally before refilling it with litter.  There is no need to rinse, and you will find that once you experience the fresh and long-lasting smell, you will turn to natural cleaning products for many of your other household needs.
