Suggestions for How You Can Shop For a Tomboy

As much as you’ve tried to get your little girl to go shopping for a pair of Mary Jane’s and a skirt, she just won’t do it. She hated ballet class, but she loved dressing for soccer. You want to take her shopping but it’s hard to keep her out of the little boy’s section. Don’t worry, Mom, there’s nothing to be concerned about. Plenty of little girls go through this tomboy phase and she won’t be the last.

For starters, shopping for a tomboy doesn’t mean your little girl has to dress like a man or a slob. She can still be a tomboy, be neat, and look like a girl. When you’re shopping for her, look for tennis shoes that are new but that aren’t pink or girly. Nikes, Vans, and Pumas are all cute, comfortable, and athletic shoes that a guy or a girl can pull off.

Jean shopping can be complicated but it doesn’t have to be. Today’s straight legged jeans aren’t your dad’s. They’re form fitting but still straight. Dark, flare legged jeans will look cute with her new tennis shoes.

When you’re shopping, avoid the skirt section all together and start shopping for tops. Stores like J. Crew and Gap offer plain t-shirts that are meant for a girl, but aren’t necessarily girly. While you’re at it, head on over to the hat store, too. Your little girl will love shopping for great hats from baseball caps to beanies.

Shopping for your tomboy doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be fun!
