Why Changing You Diet Will Give Faster Weight Loss Than Exercising

Are you afraid of starting a fitness regime because of the countless hours required toiling away on a Stairmaster?  Although you may be giving the evil eye to the skinny person walking on the treadmill next to you, relax and know that you don’t have to be a slave to the gym to get in shape.  You can lose weight without working out or even setting foot in a gym.  However, itb it recommended to exercise everyday for a healthier lifestyle.

There are three types of food your body uses for nutrients: proteins, carbs, and fats.  For every gram of protein, there are four calories.  For every gram of carbs, there are also four calories.  For every gram of fat, there are nine!  Woah, so you’re saying that I’ll gain more weight eating a pound of fat than a pound of carbs?  Exactly!

Weight gain is all about the calories.  The more calories you eat, the more your body has to burn.  If you eat more calories per day than your body expends, you will gain weight.  If you expend more calories than you consume, you’ll lose weight.  The trick is to eat less than you consume, or to consume more than you eat.

There are two ways to do that, the first one is through exercise.  If you eat a burger, you can burn it off.  The second is by not even eating that burger in the first place!  You then don’t have to exercise (well, you still should, but we won’t go there).

For most people, it is much easier to go on a diet than it is to exercise.  What is a diet exactly?  Most people have a bad idea of what a diet truly is.  You are on a diet right now.  A diet doesn’t mean restricting certain foods, but instead it’s what you eat.  If you eat cardboard all day, you are on a cardboard diet (which is probably what you’ve tried in the past).  You can go on a fat-eating diet by eating only fat.  The trick to losing weight is to come up with a balanced diet that is made up of less calories than you burn.

Let’s put our diet into perspective.  A slice of bread has about 100 calories.  To burn 100 calories, you need to run about a mile.  A 500 calorie meal takes five miles to burn off.  Our body naturally burns about 2,000 calories a day.  To stay the same weight you are now, you have to eat 2,000 calories a day.  Any more and you’ll gain weight, any less and you’ll lose it.  If you run two miles a day, then you can eat 200 extra calories, or 2,200 daily.

Although exercise is definitely recommended, creating a good diet is actually much easier than exercise (for most people).  Although a diet may be easier to get results with, you don’t want to starve yourself.  You should eat a balanced diet with whole grains, proteins, and good fats.
