How to Lift Your Mood By Redecorating After the Holidays

Don’t you just love the holidays?  That means it’s time to decorate for the next two months!  Oh, but isn’t it an awful feeling when the relatives go home and there’s no more festiveness in the air?  Relax… you can decorate all year round, if it makes you happy.  Here are some tips on how to keep the decorating spirit alive after the holiday season passes and avoid sinking into a Grinchy depression.

The Week After Christmas

Relax for a few days and recharge.  Don’t immediately take your decorations down if the thought depresses you.  Clean up and relax… and wait for the home’s original charm to come back to you.  Then, consider changing the layout of your home.  Think of it in terms of a new year and a new change of scenery.  Change the look and feel of your home instantly without spending any money by moving around key pieces of furniture, or switching around paintings.

Paint Your Walls

You can also make the room look fresh when you add a new color by re-painting or by redoing the wallpaper.  If this seems like too involved a project, then just decorate by adding a few plants to each room.  Plants, flowers and exotic shrubbery can really give a familiar room new life.  If you don’t have time to water them all once a week, consider buying some artificial plants from a home improvement store.

Add new Lighting

If the mood inside your home seems depressing without all the festive twinkling lights, then decorate by adding some light.  Lighten things up with new lamps or at least new lampshades.  Better lighting can really make a difference to your mood.

Add Splashes of Color

Go out shopping to your local market or craft store, and bring back some color pieces to decorate your house with, such as pillowcases, rugs, art pieces and other enjoyable amenities.  Remember, after the holidays, you barely get a day’s rest before Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day come around—and yet another chance to decorate comes to you.

Keep busy and make plans to decorate!  This way you will avoid the post-holiday blues and wind up with a happy, welcoming home.
