How to Stop Snoring by Changing Your Sleeping Position

Snoring is an annoying problem that plagues millions of people around the world each year.  It can be difficult for spouses to enjoy a good night’s sleep, and many who have a snoring problem report that they don’t have as much energy throughout the day as their snoring wakes even them up!

It is more than just annoying though.  Many consider snoring to be a sleeping disorder.  Fortunately, you can find some simple ways to combat your snoring, and it won’t cost anything. You could just pick up devices such as anti-snoring mouthpiece, nose clip, and chin strap, to name a few. However, one of the best way to begin your fight against snoring is to experiment with different sleeping positions.

Put a Pillow Under Your Chin

The first thing that you might want to try is to put something beneath your chin when you go to bed, between your chin and chest as you lie on your back.  You can use a small pillow if you have one, or even a rolled up towel. This will elongate your neck and stop your chin from falling forward onto your chest, and avoid the constriction of your airways caused by a poor sleeping position.  Another option is to use a pillow or rolled towel beneath your lower back.  These tricks can help to keep the airway open and reduce snoring.

Try Side Sleeping

One of the other options that you might want to try is sleeping on your side.  If you toss and turn in your sleep, you can use pillows to either side of you to help keep you in position.  These methods have worked for many who are trying to get help for their snoring, and they are worth trying rather than resorting to costly procedures.

When to Contact Your Doctor

If you are still having trouble sleeping without snoring, you might want to contact your doctor.  You may have sleep apnea or another condition that is causing your problem.  The doctor will be able to refer you to a sleep specialist to make sure that you get the help you need for a peaceful night’s sleep. If your snoring is not a sleeping disorder, you can continue trying the above tricks or can use an anti-snoring mouthpiece or nose clip to ensure that you get a good night’s sleep.
