Keep Your Couch Looking Great with These Simple Cleaning Tips

One of the most used pieces of furniture in just about any house is the couch. The family sits there to watch television, to talk, to read, and more. Since it is so heavily trafficked, that means that the couch gets dirty quite often, and if it’s made of darker material, it’s unlikely you’ll notice. It is important to clean your couch so you can keep it in good shape for many years.

The first thing you want to do to your sofa is vacuum it. Take out all of the cushions and vacuum in the crevices as well. This will help to remove quite a bit of the surface dirt from the couch. If your couch has any wooden areas or accents, you should dust them once you’ve finished vacuuming.

Make sure that you check the tags on the sofa to determine the proper cleaning method. For most sofas that have upholstery, you will be able to use upholstery cleaner. You should be able to use a rug cleaner for your sofa. After you clean the couch, you will find that it is still wet. Do not put the cushions back onto the sofa or sit on it until it is completely dry, or it may develop a strange ‘damp’ smell that is very hard to remove. You might have to wait overnight.

If you have a leather couch, the cleaning method is slightly different. You will still want to remove the cushions from the couch and vacuum in the crevices. You can then use a damp rag to clean the sofa, or you can buy some specialty cleaners from the store.

No matter the type of couch you have, it’s easy to clean and keep it in good shape. With the proper care, it can last for many years.
