How To Organize Your Medicine Cabinet For Safety and Efficiency

If you are looking to organize your home, you might be surprised what a difference even the littlest changes can make.  Chaos and disorganization can not only cost you time, it can create stress.  Let’s look at how you can help organize your home by rearranging your medicine cabinet.

One thing to consider when straightening your medicine cabinet is safety – in other words, keeping things out of reach of children that could pose a hazard.  Even if you do not have children, you never know when friends could stop by with theirs.  When you organize your home, always keep little ones in mind.  This means putting medicines on the top shelf so that they will be out of reach.

While organizing your home and medicine cabinet, take the opportunity to throw away any medications that are expired or no longer needed.  Flush them down the toilet to prevent any accidents, and remove the label or use a black permanent marker to blot out names and patient ID numbers on the refill tab, which could be (and often are) recovered from trash cans by identity thieves.

Another thing to consider when you organize your home is toothbrushes and toothpaste.  Keeping these toiletry items in the medicine cabinet can help keep germs from flushing toilets from settling on them.  Put these items on the bottom shelf so that smaller family members can easily reach them.  Be sure to always have a supply of cheap guest toothbrushes available – you don’t want a caught-short guest secretly using yours!

Dental floss, cleaners, and other non-toxic items can also be stored on these shelves, as well as first aid and drugstore items such as band aids.

When you organize your home and medicine cabinet, you will find that your day to day life will be a little less stressful – especially if it’s the middle of the night and you’re searching through your shelves for the one remaining aspirin in the household!  Your morning routine will be much easier to manage when you know where to find everything.

When you organize your home, things just seem to flow more smoothly, making life better for everyone.
