How to Get a Discount on a New TV Set

There are certain things we just can’t live without, such as oxygen, food… and television. There are still people out there who don’t own computers, but there aren’t many people who don’t have a TV, or at least have daily access to one. If you are in the market for upgrading your TV for a bigger and better viewing experience, here are some helpful tips.

For starters, before you go to the store, check out the internet. Not only can you find TV reviews, you may find some unexpected deals in electronics stores in your local area.

When you’re ready to go to the store, be smart. At most electronics stores, you can negotiate with the sales people. During the in-store TV shopping process, keep in mind that there are no stupid questions. If you are curious about the difference between two TV models, just ask.

One in-store way you often get a quick discount is to ask to see Open Box items. These are TVs that have been returned to the store for one reason or another, often after not even being used once. The store can’t sell these for full price as the boxes have been opened and the packaging disturbed. You can often get up to 25% off an Open Box TV, so as it is a larger ticket item, it’s well worth investigating.

Once you’ve picked the TV that is best for you and your family, you still have to have it bring it home. Check to see if the store offers in-home installation. If they’re willing to come to your house and help you set-up your TV, they’re probably a pretty reliable seller. If not, have a friend or someone else who is good with technology help you set it up because the more high-quality the TV, the more complicated the set-up.

It’s also worth braving the crowds during big ‘rush’ events, like Black Friday, the week after Christmas etc. Electronics stores stock up on TVs during the holiday season, and afterward it’s cheaper for them to sell the unsold TVs at a lower price than it is for them to pack them up and return them to the warehouse. You can get up to 50% off in some cases.

In the end, so long as you keep your wits about you and do a little research before making that big purchase, you can get a great deal.
