Don’t Try To Deduct These Items From Your Taxes This Year

Nobody likes tax season, but it is an unfortunate fact of life. Most people make claims on their taxes, which can help them to reduce the amount that they owe to the government. However, you have to be very careful with the types of deductions you are trying to claim on your taxes. The following are some of the things that you should never try to claim.

You are allowed to deduct any business expenses that you incurred during the year on your taxes. If your employer reimburses you for your expenses though, you can’t claim the part which you were paid back as deductible.

Something else that many people try to deduct is the expense of a health club. You can’t deduct any type of preventative care like a gym membership. What you can do is deduct actual medical expenses.

The IRS lets people deduct a second phone line that is used only for your business. However, you can’t deduct your primary phone line since this is used for personal reasons and not for your business.

A common misconception that many people have about the deductions on their taxes is that they will be able to claim their travel expenses to and from work. While travel outside of your normal work area, such as to a conference, can be deductible, the normal travel and gas expenses that you incur each day on your way to work are not.

The above are just a few of the things that you will have to be careful with when it comes to your taxes this year.
