Homemade Clam Chowder Offers a Hearty Meal Option

Making clam chowder at home is surprisingly simple, and offers some excellent flavor.  You’ll also find that this dish made with real clams can also be a hearty meal option for those cold winter months.

You will need to have three cans of chopped clams for your meal.  You will also need to have some heavy cream, two large white potatoes, some scallions, a Vidalia onion, some olive oil and a bit of fresh basil.

Begin preparing your clams dish by adding a quarter cup of olive oil to a saucepan with chopped basil.  Heat this on low.  Now peel and dice your potatoes into half inch squares.  You need to open your clams and drain the juice into the saucepan.

Add the potatoes to the saucepan and increase the heat to medium high.  Cook the potatoes in the juice of your clams.  Now, chop two scallions and cut up the onion.  Add the scallions and a handful of chopped onion to the mixture.  Reduce the heat to medium low.

Check the potatoes for doneness and then add your clams.  Cook your clams and other ingredients for another two minutes, then add the heave cream and cook until everything is heated through.  You can now serve your clam chowder!

You can also experiment with this dish if you like.  You can add fresh clams to the mix, rather than canned clams.  You can also try different seasonings, as well.  A bit of imagination and your dish will be uniquely yours.
