How to Choose the Right Winter Shoes for Boys

With snow, sleet, and other inclement weather conditions to contend with, winter can be difficult on everyone in the family.  Shoes, coats, hats, and scarves are important in order to keep your little ones dry during winter storms, so take a trip to the department store and look in the children’s clothing section in order to be prepared.  With so many different types of nasty weather coming your way as winter approaches, your son will need several different types of winter shoes to brave the various conditions.

Snow Boots

The most obvious and crucial pair of shoes in surviving the snowstorms winter brings are snow boots.  Little boys are more inclined than little girls to seek out the biggest, muddiest frozen puddle and to jump right in it to break the ice, so make sure his boots are waterproof at all times.  Snow boots keep your child from slipping on the snow and on any ice, and will keep his feet warm.  It’s important to find a waterproof snow boot that will protect his feet from both the temperature and the moisture of melting snow.  Fur lined boots are great and will keep his feet warm and toasty.

Rain Boots

Besides snow boots, rain boots are also necessary during wet days to help keep his socks and pants dry as he runs about and plays in puddles. In certain areas, rain can fall for many months in the winter and springtime, making rain boots vital when going outside or traveling to school. On rainy days, put a pair of clean, dry socks in a zip-lock bag and slip them into his school bag – let him know they’re there in case he needs to change his socks at school. If your son has a spill and ends up with wet feet, you can be assured that he won’t be doing much concentrating in class with cold, wet socks on all day!

Warm Moccasins

For cold, but dry days, send your son off in comfortable, fur-lined moccasins that will keep his tootsies toasty. Find some with simple laces that are easy to tie and a rubber bottom that will stay intact. You can also purchase slippers that will keep his feet warm around the house and on any chilly tiled floors.
