7 Ways To Naturally Whiten Teeth

Foods like coffee, tea, soda, and red wine stain the teeth and dampen the impact of your smile. Persistent use of home remedies and easily available foods can help to whiten the teeth over time. Though they are not thoroughly effective as professional teeth whitening products, they are natural and cheap.

  • Water
It is advised to drink water throughout the day to promote saliva production which helps in keeping your teeth white. Sipping water during and after a meal helps to rinse the mouth of any debris and loosens plaque.
  • Baking soda
Baking soda has long been considered a tooth whitening home remedy. This is an effective remedy for removing plaque and whitening the teeth. It is best used by brushing it with a commercial paste that contains a mild abrasive. Once in a while, you can brush your teeth with baking soda straight from the box.
  • Apple cider vinegar
For centuries, apple cider vinegar has been used as a disinfectant and a natural cleaning product. The main active ingredient acetic acid in apple cider vinegar effectively kills bacteria. This vinegar has antibacterial properties which make it useful to clean the mouth and whiten the teeth. It also has a bleaching effect on the teeth. It is advised to limit the number of times that you use this remedy, as acetic acid has the potential to erode the enamel of the teeth. It can also be diluted with water and used as a mouthwash.
  • Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is said to be a natural bleaching agent and also kills bacteria present in the mouth. It is also used to disinfect wounds because of its ability to kill bacteria. Overuse or strong concentrations could cause gum irritation and tooth sensitivity. A simple way to use hydrogen peroxide is by mixing it with baking soda to make toothpaste. Gently brush your teeth with this mixture for instant white teeth. It can also be used as a mouthwash by mixing equal parts of peroxide and water.

There are several methods to help whiten teeth. Most of these remedies generally work by gently removing stains that are present on the surface of the teeth. Some natural methods claim to make teeth significantly whiter but their effectiveness has not been evaluated by far.

  • Activated charcoal
Brushing teeth with powdered charcoal pulls the toxins from the mouth and removes stains from the teeth leaving the teeth white.
  • Kaolin clay
People who have used this method of brushing teeth with clay have seen results. It removes stains and maintains a whitish tinge to the teeth.
  • Turmeric mixture
Another natural teeth whitening method is said to be mixing turmeric with coconut oil and swishing the mixture in your mouth. You can do this every day for a few minutes or a few times a week. It is said that both coconut oil and turmeric are very good to manage a healthy oral microbiome. Having a biome in the mouth keeps plaque and biofilm at bay. This mixture removes and prevents stains thereby giving more whiteness to the teeth.

Certain foods help in whitening teeth. Knowing which type of food does the trick can accelerate your pursuit of whiter and brighter teeth. The market is flooded with chemical products that promise white teeth. Natural remedies are safer and cheaper. They might take more time as compared to chemical products, but they have lesser side effects too.
