How to Get Beautiful Hands, Naturally

Do your hands leave much to be desired in the way of appearance?  If so, you are certainly not alone.  Parents who work hard every day or who spend a lot of time bathing children and soaking their hands in bath water are prone to skin problems.  It could be that your skin has become dry and rough, or perhaps your nails have started to become brittle and flaky.

Whatever the case, here are some tips to help you improve the appearance of your hands without having to resort to an expensive spa treatment or a professional manicure.

One thing that will certainly benefit hand appearance is to use the right products.  This includes everything from lotion and hand soap to dish soap.  Remember that your hands are absorbing everything they come into contact with.  That means that you need to pay attention even to products made for dishes.  If you are touching it, it needs to be good for the skin.  A great choice is to use only products that are all natural and organic.

Another good idea is to invest in a good thick pair of washing up gloves. Each time you make your hands wet they lose natural oils and moisture, so keep a good moisturizing cream next to the sink and treat yourself to a squirt every time you wash your hands.

If you have particularly dry or rough hands, it’s a good idea to do a once-a-week hand treatment. Invest in some Coco butter or Shea butter (the best brand we’ve tried is Palmers). Massage a generous amount of butter into your hands for 2 minutes, then slip on a pair of rubber gloves and set the lotion sink in for at least 30 minutes. You can even do this treatment as you wash up! After the 30 minutes, wipe off any excess lotion, and dry your hands on a towel. Do not wash your hands. You’ll find that most (if not all) of the lotion has been absorbed, and your skin will be incredibly soft and moisturized.

Another great alternative hand treatment is simply olive oil. Massage into your hands as above, let sit for 30 minutes and then rinse well. Towel dry your hands and rub a few drops of scented oil onto your hands so you won’t smell like a salad for the rest of the day!

Olive or flaxseed oil also makes a great nail treatment. Massage a few drops into unvarnished nails and cuticles every day for stronger nails that are less prone to splitting, flaking and breakage.

With the right products and the right regimen, you can easily improve the appearance of your hands.  The key is simply finding a routine and sticking with it.
