Why Men Seem to Lack Logic in Relationships

Ever look at your man try to solve a simple problem that doesn’t involve cars or food?  It is particularly amusing to watch him plan anything; an event, his finances, what time he will wake up tomorrow.  On the outside, men may seem to lack a sense of logic – or more appropriately, a lack of reason.  This can be summed up in what I’m sure you’ve heard your man say many times: “Because I can”.

Ask your man why he wants to buy that 70 inch 3-D plasma TV when your living room can barely fit a TV tray and a chair.  Ask him why he insists on dunking the basketball when playing with your four year old child on a three foot basketball hoop.   Ask him why he wants to drive the car 100 miles per hour every time there is a clearing on the freeway.  The answer: “Because I can”.

Although this may seem to be an obvious lack of logic, this seemingly irresponsible mentality has benefited mankind as a whole since the history of homo sapiens.  It’s how society has made the largest improvements in technology and science, even philosophy.  In fact, it’s the reason humans were able to walk on the moon!  Imagine how the conversation started that spurred the space race.

Bob: “Hey honey, what is that up there in the sky?”
Bob’s Wife: “Bob, it’s the moon, can you stop gawking and come back inside. The neighbors are watching.”
Bob: “I am going to build a space ship and walk on it”.
Bob’s Wife: “What are you talking about? There is nothing up there but dirt and rocks. Why the heck would you ever want to do that?”
Bob: “Because I can”.

Well, maybe the conversation didn’t go exactly like that, but you get the idea.  Our lack of logic as male creatures has its downsides, but with it comes tremendous potential.  Men are ambitious creatures and when our mind is set, we pursue our goals despite whatever obstacles stand in our way.  Whether it be a home business or building a tree house for little Johnny, nothing will stop us – not even logic.

You may think that evolution forgot to take a step when developing man, because we don’t have that part of our brain that says “it may not be such a good idea to leap from a giant cliff with a set of wax wings on our backs, thinking we’re really going to fly”…. but maybe we don’t have that sense of inhibition for a reason.

To you we lack logic; to us, it is a courage to defy all things, even laws of nature like gravity.   With a built in sense of logic, its debatable whether men would have achieved the accomplishments and feats of our ancestors.  (Although the world might be a calmer and less hazardous place!)

This lack of logic, which I will call an overinflated ego and diminished sense of risk, is a necessary evil that men possess for the betterment of society.  Although it may be troubling or scary at times – such as when we’re trying to drive in a foreign land without asking any directions – it has its significance in our evolution, history, and society.
